U.S. police say a man in Michigan suspected of killing seven people, including his daughter and another child, committed suicide late Thursday after taking three other people hostage.
Police in the city of Grand Rapids say 34-year-old Rodrick Shonte Dantzler went on a shooting rampage earlier in the day, killing four people at one home and three more people in another. Dantzler is believed to have had a “prior relationship” with at least one person in each of the homes.
Dantzler led police on high-speed chase through downtown Grand Rapids, shooting two other people before breaking into a house and taking three people hostage. He released one of them, a 53-year-old woman, after demanding a drink and cigarettes.
The two people wounded during the high-speed chase did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Dantzler had a previous criminal record, including a conviction for assault with bodily harm less than murder.
Grand Rapids police Chief Kevin Belk described the shootings as senseless.
