Japanese share prices ended higher Friday, while the dollar was flat against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained four-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,974.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 79.19 yen, up slightly from late Thursday.

The Taipei market gained 1.10 percent , to close at 8,575.
