U.S. stock market indexes were higher in Friday's midday trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose one-tenth of a percent. The S&P 500 gained three-tenths of a percent. And the NASDAQ jumped seven-tenths of a percent.
European stock markets were mixed at the close of trading. London's Financial Times 100 index slipped less than one-tenth of a percent to end at 5,844. The CAC-40 in Paris lost almost seven-tenths of a percent to finish at 3,727. And the DAX in Frankfurt advanced almost one-tenth of a percent to settle at 7,220.
Earlier in Asia, In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index gained four-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,974. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost three-tenths of a percent , to end at 21,875.
The price of gold gained more than $2 to trade at $1,589.45 an ounce.
The dollar was lower against the yen and the euro.
