Armed assailants have attacked the private home of Guinea President Alpha Conde in Conkary.

Mr Conde was not injured in the attack early Tuesday and is safe.

The heavy gunfire reportedly lasted for one hour before the military took control of the Kaporo Rails neighborhood. A witness in Conkary told VOA the military has sealed the area surrounding the home.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the shooting.

Guinea held its first free and fair election late last year.
