A U.S. man has been executed for killing three family members, in what was believed to be the first video-recorded execution in the United States in nearly two decades.

Andrew DeYoung was put to death by lethal injection late Thursday at a prison in Georgia.

The execution was originally set for Wednesday but was delayed so a court could review the state's legal challenges to video recording the execution.

A videographer was in the execution chamber to document De Young's death at the request of another death row inmate whose lawyers are seeking to show that the drugs Georgia uses to execute people could cause pain and suffering.

DeYoung blinked his eyes and swallowed for a few minutes, before becoming still and being pronounced dead. He was put to death for murdering his parents and his sister in 1993.

On Wednesday, an American man was executed by lethal injection in Texas. The man had gone on a deadly shooting spree for what he said was retaliation for the 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

The man, Mark Stroman, was convicted of killing an Indian man and a Pakistani man. He also shot a man from Bangladesh and blinded him in one eye.

Stroman, a self-described white supremacist, said he was targeting people he thought to be of Arab descent.
