Asian stock markets were lower in trading Monday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped eight-tenths of a percent to close at 10,050.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell seven-tenths of a percent to end at 22,293.

Elsewhere, share prices were lower in Shanghai, Sydney, Wellington and Taipei. Markets in Manila edged up slightly.

The dollar was selling at 78.24 yen in currency trading, down three-tenths of a yen from late Friday.
