Japanese share prices ended lower Monday, while the dollar slipped against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped eight-tenths of a percent to close at 10,050.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 78.16 yen, down four-tenths of a yen from late Friday.

Gold was trading at $1,619.38 an ounce.
