A new survey shows a majority of Americans are discontented with U.S. President Barack Obama's handling of the economy and the federal budget deficit, as well as his ability to create jobs.
The Washington Post-ABC News poll shows 57 percent of Americans disapprove of the way the president is dealing with the economy.
Sixty percent of the respondents disagree with his handling of the federal budget deficit. President Obama and lawmakers are racing to reach agreement on moving forward with the budget and raising the debt ceiling, as the deadline to avoid a possible first-ever debt default is one week away.
Just over half of those surveyed showed disapproval with Mr. Obama's ability to create jobs, as national unemployment stands at more than nine percent.
The poll was conducted by phone July 14-17, among a random sample of about one-thousand adults.
