Japanese share prices were up Tuesday, while the dollar lost more ground against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained almost half of one percent to close at 10,098.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 78.06 yen, down almost a quarter yen from late Monday.

The Taipei market gained more than one-and-one-quarter percent to close at 8,794.
