A U.S. federal grand jury has inducted an Uzbek national on charges of threatening to kill President Barack Obama and illegal weapons possession.
Ulugbek Kodoriov was charged Tuesday in Birmingham, Alabama with four counts of threatening the president, one count of weapons possession, and one count of illegally being in the country with a firearm.
Federal agents arrested him in a hotel July 13 after he allegedly bought a machine gun from an undercover agent.
Kodoriov allegedly made four separate threats to assassinate President Obama. The Justice Department gave no details about those threats.
Officials say Kodoriov came to the United States in 2009 on a student visa, which was revoked last year when he failed to enroll in school.
If convicted on all counts, Kodoriov faces up to 40 years in prison.
