Mexican authorities say 17 people were killed and two others wounded during a prison riot in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
Police said Tuesdy gunshots could be heard coming from inside the Cereso prison. The Norte newspaper reported that some of the prisoners may have been dressed as prison guards.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Ciudad Juarez, Hector Murguia, says thousands of federal officers sent in to help patrol the violent city will be withdrawn starting in September. The federal officers have been in charge of security since early 2010.
Ciudad Juarez, considered Mexico's most violent city, has been caught in a turf war between rival drug cartels.
