Striking South African gold miners are set to resume talks with producers Friday to end their work stoppage.
Thousands of miners from AngloGold, Ashanti, Gold Fields, Harmony and several smaller mines left their jobs on Thursday.
The miners are demanding a 14 percent pay hike compared to the seven to nine percent they have been offered.
At least one mine official says he intends to scale back production if the strike is not resolved.
South Africa is one of the world's leading gold producers.
