Japanese share prices ended lower Friday, while the dollar slipped against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index lost seven-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,833.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 77.58 yen, down a tenth of a yen from late Thursday.

Gold was trading at $1,613.80 an ounce.
