US Stocks Fall

U.S. stock indexes were mixed in Friday's trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was off eight-tenths of a percent to finish at 12,144. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell six-tenths of a percent to close at 1,292 while the NASDAQ lost four-tenths of a percent to reach 2,756.

European stock markets were lower at the close of trading.

London's Financial Times 100 index fell one percent to close at 5,815. The CAC-40 in Paris is off 1.1 percent to end at 3,673 and the DAX in Frankfurt by four-tenths of a percent to hit 7,159.

In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index lost seven-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,833. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index dropped six-tenths of a percent , to end at 22,440.

Gold advanced more than $9 to trade at $1,625.15 an ounce.

The U.S. dollar was lower against the yen and the euro.
