Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh is calling for an end to months of street protests during the holy month of Ramadan, and a resumption of talks aimed at resolving the nation's prolonged political crisis.
Mr. Saleh issued his statement Sunday from Saudi Arabia, where he is being treated for wounds he suffered in an attack on the presidential compound in June.
The opposition previously has rejected his invitations to negotiate, saying talks can only take place after the Yemeni leader signs a Gulf Arab plan to ease him out of power after 33 years in office.
Protesters for six months have been pressing for Mr. Saleh to leave office.
