Police in India's northeastern state of Manipur say a powerful bomb blast in a busy market killed five people Monday and wounded at least 12 others.
Local authorities said the bomb, planted on a scooter, exploded on the outskirts of Imphal, the capital of Manipur state.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
India's remote northeast has been racked by violence, as a number of separatist groups fight for greater autonomy or an independent homeland. The violence has killed about 20,000 people since 1979.
