European stock markets were higher in midday trading Monday.
London's Financial Times 100 index was up 1.32 percent , to 5,892. The CAC-40 in Paris rose eight-tenths of a percent , to 3,702. And the DAX in Frankfurt gained seven-tenths of a percent , at 7,209.
The S&P futures contract was up 19 points, indicating a substantially higher opening for U.S. markets.
In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index jumped one-and-one-third percent to close at 9,965.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index climbed one percent to end at 22,663.
Gold was trading at $1,616.39 an ounce.
The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies.
