Police in Britain have arrested a man in connection with the phone-hacking scandal involving journalists at the now-defunct British tabloid newspaper News of the World.

The Metropolitan police said the 71-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning at a police station in London.

The man was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to intercept communications, or phone-hacking, and suspicion of corruption. He is reported to be the newspaper's former editor, Stuart Kuttner.

Ten other people have been arrested in connection with the scandal. They include former News of the World editors Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, who went on to head communications for Prime Minister David Cameron before resigning in January.

News of the World shut down earlier this month after allegations that journalists illegally accessed the cellphone voicemails of hundreds of celebrities, politicians, rival journalists and even murder victims. Employees of the newspaper also are suspected of bribing police for information.
