A tropical storm watch for Haiti has been upgraded to a warning as Tropical Storm Emily makes its way through the Caribbean.
The storm is predicted to reach the island of Hispaniola, shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, by Wednesday.
The news is particularly bad for Haiti, where thousands of people still live in tent camps after a devastating earthquake in January 2010.
Emily was last reported about 345 kilometers southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, moving toward Hispaniola at a rate of 19 kilometers per hour. The storm's sustained winds were measured at 70 kilometers per hour.
Forecasts for Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti predict up to 15 centimeters of rain.
