Japan’s Nikkei Rises, Dollar Falls

Japanese markets closed lower Wednesday, while the U.S. dollar is slightly higher against the Japanese yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index plunged more than two percent to finish at 9,637.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 77.17 yen, a gain of a fraction of a yen from Tuesday.

The Taipei market closed at 8,457, a loss of one and one-half percent .
