Japanese share prices plummeted Friday, while the dollar slipped against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped 3.72 percent , to close at 9,300.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 78.49 yen, down four-tenths of a yen from late Thursday.

Gold was selling at $1,667.53 an ounce.
