A heavy police presence patrolled the north London neighborhood of Tottenham early Sunday, after a peaceful march Saturday night to protest the police shooting of a young man turned violent.
Police say about 300 rioters clashed with officers in front of the Tottenham police station and set ablaze two patrol cars, a double-decker bus and a building. The crowd also broke shop windows and looted stores, pushing shopping carts full of stolen goods down the street.
The original rally was held to demand justice for the shooting Thursday of a 29-year-old man killed in an exchange of gunfire with police.
