The U.S. soldier convicted of masterminding abuses of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq has been released from a military prison in Kansas.

A military spokesman says reservist Charles Garner was released Saturday after serving more than six years of a 10-year sentence. The spokesman says Garner was released early for good behavior.

Garner and five other soldiers from his Military Police unit were convicted of abusing detainees, dereliction of duty, assault through battery and indecent acts. Photographs first revealed publicly in 2004 showed images of Garner smiling behind a group of naked detainees stacked in a pyramid. The photos ignited global outrage.

Garner is the last of the soldiers released from prison, having served the longest sentence. He will remain on supervised probation until December 25, 2014.

Eleven military personnel have been convicted of abusing Abu Ghraib prisoners.
