Asian stock markets tumbled Monday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index fell nearly 2.2 percent to close at 9,098.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index also dropped nearly 2.2 percent to end at 20,491.
Elsewhere, share prices were lower in Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Wellington and Manila. Markets also closed lower in Shanghai, Seoul, Sydney, Singapore, Mumbai and Bangkok.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 77.62 yen, down nearly eight-tenths of a yen from late Friday.
Gold was trading at $1,707.74 an ounce.
