The U.S. Embassy in Haiti says there are reports of demonstrations in downtown Port-au-Prince and all trips to the capital should be postponed until further notice.
The revised advisory comes as Haiti's President Michel Martelly struggles to install a new government.
Recently, Haitian lawmakers rejected President Martelly's second pick for prime minister. The political wrangling continues to hamper efforts to rebuild Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake.
President Martelly, a former pop music star, was elected in March with no political experience, and took office in May.
