British police have made another arrest in connection with the phone-hacking scandal at the now-defunct News of the World newspaper.

London police arrested 61-year-old Greg Miskiw, a former senior editor at the weekly tabloid, on suspicion of conspiracy to intercept communications. He is the 12th person arrested in the scandal since January.

Miskiw, who had been living in the U.S. state of Florida, says he voluntarily returned to Britain to speak with police.

Among others arrested in connection with the scandal are former News of the World editors Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, who went on to head communications for British Prime Minister David Cameron before resigning in January.

News of the World shut down last month after allegations that journalists illegally accessed the cellphone voicemails of hundreds of celebrities, politicians, rival journalists and even murder victims. Employees of the newspaper also are suspected of bribing police for information.

A British court last week gave a four-week jail sentence to a man who threw a foam pie at media mogul Rupert Murdoch while he gave testimony to parliament in connection with the phone-hacking scandal.

News of the World was one of several news and entertainment outlets that were part of Murdoch's worldwide media conglomerate, News Corporation.
