Burma's new government has announced a reorganization of the way it provides official information to the public.
Official media on Thursday reported the formation of an 11-member team that will be responsible for the release of news and information and for holding occasional press conferences.
The team will be headed by Information Minister Kyaw Hsan and includes representatives of several other ministries including foreign affairs, labor, and home affairs. National Police Chief Kyaw Kyaw Tun is also a member.
The announcement comes as a new nominally civilian government organizes itself to replace the long-ruling military regime that stepped down at the end of March.
Despite the changes, current and former military officers remain in firm control of the new administration. The distribution of information in Burma is tightly controlled by the government.
