Police in Estonia say a gunman who entered the defense ministry in the capital, Tallin, Thursday was shot and killed when police entered the building and opened fire.

A police statement says no one else was injured.

Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip identified the dead man as lawyer Karen Drambjan. He was born in 1954 in Armenia and became an Estonian citizen 1993. Ansip said the motive for his action is not clear, but suggested he could have been inspired by events in Norway where a gunman last month killed 77 people.

Estonian officials had said earlier Thursday that a man entered the ministry building shortly after 3:00 PM and started shooting. They said the man was armed with a gun and packets of explosive.

The area was cordoned off by police and workers were evacuated from the ministry building.

Estonian Defense Minister Mart Laar was not in the building at the time of the incident.

In Norway, a right-wing extremist confessed to detonating a bomb July 22 outside the government complex in Oslo, that killed eight people, and then gunning down 69 others at a youth camp on a Norwegian island.
