Pakistani police say assailants have kidnapped a U.S. citizen from his residence in the country's eastern region.

Pakistani police say as many as eight to ten people were involved in the abduction.

U.S. embassy officials say they are aware of the reported kidnapping and are looking into it.

Kidnappings for ransom are fairly common in Pakistan.

Anti-U.S. sentiments run high in Pakistan. Tensions increased between Islamabad and Washington after the May 2 killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden in a U.S. raid in Pakistan.
