Television exit polls show Argentina's President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner well on her way toward reelection in October after Sunday's open primary.
The exit polls give her about 45 percent of the vote, far ahead of the second place candidate. Final results are expected Monday.
Sunday's primary was Argentina's first open primary, meaning that all parties put up a candidate and voters cast ballots for their favorite. Political analysts say the primary was more of a nationwide opinion poll instead of an election.
The general election will be held October 23. Analysts say they expect the opposition to struggle to find a single candidate to challenge President Fernandez.
Ms. Fernandez was elected in 2007, succeeding her husband Nestor Kirchner. He died last year.
