Asian Markets Close Higher

Asian stock markets closed higher Monday.

Tokyo’s Nikkei index rose 1.37 percent , to close at 9,086.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index jumped 3.26 percent , to end at 20,260.

Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Wellington and Manila. Markets also closed higher in Shanghai, Sydney, Singapore and Bangkok. Markets were closed in Seoul and Mumbai for national holidays.

The U.S. dollar was quoted at 76.86 yen, up about two tenths of a yen from late Friday.

Gold was trading at $1,740.25 an ounce.
