Police in Australia say an Australian businessman has been arrested in the United States in connection with an attack on a Sydney teen in which a fake bomb was attached to her neck.

New South Wales state police said Tuesday a 50-year-old man was arrested Monday in Louisville in the Kentucky, in an operation involving Australian police and the FBI.

Officials have not released the man's name, but the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper said Wednesday he was identified as Paul “Doug” Peters.

Eighteen-year-old Madeleine Pulver was attacked in her home in a Sydney suburb earlier this month and a masked man strapped a device that looked like a bomb around her neck.

Police say the man left a note before leaving the house, but they did not say what it said.

Pulver spent 10 terrifying hours chained to the device before a bomb squad was able to free her. She was not hurt, and the device was later found to contain no explosives.

Police say they will ask for the man's extradition to Australia to face trial in connection with the case.
