Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has arrived for his first official visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina, hoping to win support for a Palestinian effort to join the United Nations in September.
Mr. Abbas arrived for his three-day meeting Sunday and will meet with Bosnia's three-member presidency and foreign minister on Monday.
Bosnia-Herzegovina is one of 10 non-permanent current members of the U.N. Security Council. The Palestinian authority is seeking full U.N. recognition of a Palestinian state, a bid strongly opposed by Israel.
Since the collapse of direct peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel last September, both sides have increased diplomatic efforts to gain support. The Palestinians are pushing for U.N. recognition of a state based on borders prior to the 1967 War, in which Israel occupied Palestinian enclaves.
