Japanese share prices ended higher Monday, while the dollar rose against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index rose 1.37 percent , to close at 9,086.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.90 yen, up two-tenths of a yen from late Friday.

The Taipei market jumped 2.39 percent , to close at 7,819.
