Tropical Storm Gert is expected to drop 2 to 7 centimeters of rain on Bermuda Monday as it passes just east of the British territory in the Atlantic Ocean.

At last report, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm had maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour as its outer edge neared Bermuda. Gert is traveling at about 22 kilometers per hour.

Bermuda is under a tropical storm warning.

The weather system is expected to gain some strength as its center passes by the island. Forecasters expect the storm will then move out to sea, away from the U.S. east coast.

Gert is the seventh named storm of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, but none of the storms has developed into a hurricane.
