U.S. stock market indexes rose in Monday's early trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced one percent, the S&P 500 rose nine-tenths of a percent and the NASDAQ gained seven-tenths of a percent.
European stock markets were higher in afternoon trading. London's Financial Times 100 index gained four-tenths of a percent, the CAC-40 in Paris moved up half a percent, and the DAX in Frankfurt jumped eight-tenths of a percent.
Earlier in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index rose 1.4 percent , to close at 9,086. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 3.3 percent , to end at 20,260.
The price of gold fell more than $6 to trade at $1,740.16 an ounce.
The dollar was lower against the yen and the euro.
