U.S. stock market indexes rose in Monday's midday trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced one percent, the S&P 500 rose 1.2 percent and the NASDAQ gained seven-tenths of a percent.
European stock markets were higher at the close of trading. London's Financial Times 100 index gained six-tenths of a percent to end at 5,351. The CAC-40 in Paris moved up eight-tenths of a percent to close at 3,239 and the DAX in Frankfurt jumped four-tenths of a percent to reach 6,022.
Earlier in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index rose 1.4 percent , to close at 9,086. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 3.3 percent , to end at 20,260.
The price of gold fell more than $2 to trade at $1,744.05 an ounce.
The dollar was up against the yen but lost value compared to the euro.
