U.S. Senator John McCain has traveled to Indian-controlled Kashmir for talks with the region's top officials.

McCain arrived in the summer capital, Srinagar, Tuesday for a two-day visit.

Officials say the U.S. senator met with Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and “exchanged views on various important issues of mutual interest.”

No specific details of the talks were released.

McCain is the top Republican lawmaker on the Senate Armed Services Committee and a former U.S. presidential candidate.
