US Stocks Advance in Early Trading Wednesday

U.S. stock indexes moved up in early trading Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average of 30 key stocks is up three-quarters of one percent, while the broader S & P 500 index is ahead by 1.1 percent. The technology-laden NASDAQ is up nine-tenths of a percent.

European stock prices are mixed in afternoon trading.

London's Financial Times index is down two-tenths of one percent. The CAC-40 in Paris is up nine-tenths of a percent, while the DAX index in Frankfurt is off one-half of one percent.

In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index lost just over one-half of one percent to finish at 9,057.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained nearly four-tenths of one percent to finish the day's trading at 20,289.

Gold is trading up $5.70 at $1,791.25 an ounce.

The dollar is trading lower against both the yen and euro.
