U.S. stocks were lower at closing Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1.6 percent to close at 10,818.
The S&P 500 fell 1.5 percent to 1,124.
The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 1.6 percent to close at 2,342.
Major European stock indexes fell again, but not by as much as they did on Thursday.
London's Financial Times 100 index ended down 1 percent to close at 5,041. The CAC-40 index in Paris fell 1.9 percent to finish at 3,017. The DAX in Frankfurt dropped 2.2 percent to end the week's trading at 5,480.
In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped two-and-a-half percent , to close at 8,719.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 3.1 percent , to end at 19,400.
Gold settled at $1,848.90 per ounce, up from $1,818.90 on Thursday.
The dollar was lower against the yen and the euro.
