12 Killed in Plane Crash in Canadian Arctic

A passenger jet has crashed in Canada's Arctic region, killing 12 people and injuring three others.

Canadian police say the Boeing 737 jet with 15 people on board went down Saturday near Resolute Bay in the Arctic territory of Nunavut.

Police had no immediate information on the condition of the three survivors.

The airline, First Air, confirmed the crash, saying in a statement that the plane last reported communication at 12:40 p.m. local time when it was about eight kilometers from Resolute Bay airport. Canadian transportation safety officials are investigating the crash.

The flight was traveling from Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories to Resolute Bay, and was scheduled to continue on to Grise Fiord on Ellesmere Island.
