European Union Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton said Monday that Moammar Gadhafi's regime is in its “last moments” and she called on the Libyan leader “to step down without further delay and avoid further bloodshed”
Ms. Ashton also asked the Transitional National Council and opposition forces to ensure the protection of civilians, respect international human rights and maintain peace and stability throughout the country.
The EU foreign minister says Libya is entering a new era, and added that it is time to launch a process of transition towards a new Libya, in which democratic principles, justice and human rights are fully respected.
Ms. Ashton said the EU will continue to support democratic reform in the country, pledging to remain a strong and committed partner for the Libyan people
