Indonesian police say two people were killed in clashes at a state-run oil well in Central Sulawesi province.

Police say several people were injured in the melee, and many others were arrested.

Officials say the clashes began Saturday when dozens of local residents stormed the facility armed with machetes and Molotov cocktails. At last report, the clashes were continuing.

The French News agency says the protesters are complaining that the companies failed to honor promises to provide electricity and jobs to local residents.
