Police on the British Channel Island of Jersey say they suspect a 30-year-old Polish man of killing six people earlier this month.

Detectives have been waiting to question the man who was hospitalized for injuries after the August 14th stabbing spree in the island's capital Saint Helier. Witnesses say he stabbed himself after killing three adults and three children.

British news media identify the man as Damian Rzeszowski. He is suspected of stabbing to death his wife Izabela and their two young children, as well as his wife's father. He is also suspected of killing a family friend and her child. All of the victims are believed to be Polish immigrants.

Violent crime is rare on the island, which is a tax haven and a holiday destination, located off the west coast of France's Normandy.
