Palestinian sources say casualties from the latest round of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have increased to eight dead and 20 wounded.
Israeli warplanes began more air raids over the Gaza Strip Wednesday after Palestinian militants fired a barrage of rockets into southern Israel.
Palestinian sources said Thursday that at least one militant from the Islamic Jihad group was among those killed.
Israel said its warplanes targeted a cross-border weapons smuggling tunnel and a weapons manufacturing site.
Earlier reports from Israel said rockets that Palestinians fired from Gaza on Wednesday wounded an Israeli infant.
Israeli forces and Palestinian militants have traded attacks across the Gaza border for the past week, since militants crossed into southern Israel on August 18 and attacked a bus, cars and security personnel.
Eight Israelis died last week, and an Israeli counterattack at the border with Egypt killed five Egyptian security officers. The government in Cairo, led by a military council since Hosni Mubarak stepped down as president, threatened to break off diplomatic relations over the incident.
