Russian authorities have arrested a Chechen man on charges of killing a former Russian army colonel convicted in 2003 of killing a young Chechen woman.
A spokeswoman for a Moscow district court said Friday Magomed Suleimanov has been charged with murder in the death of Yuri Budanov.
Budanov was shot to death in Moscow in June in what appeared to be a contract-style killing.
The former army colonel was sentenced to 10 years in prison for kidnapping and strangling Elza Kungayeva to death in 2000. He was released early on parole in 2009.
The case came to symbolize Russian army abuses during the conflict in Chechnya, where Russian troops have been battling Islamist insurgents for more than a decade.
