The United Nations War Crimes Tribunal says former Yugoslav army chief of staff Momcilo Perisic will go on trial September 6 on charges that include crimes against humanity.
Perisic is the most senior Yugoslav military officer indicted by the Hague tribunal.
He is charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity for his alleged part in the siege of the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo between 1993 and 1995. Bosnian Serb shells and sniper fire killed and wounded thousands of civilians. He is also accused of taking part in the Srebrenica massacre of Muslim males and failing to punish Croatian Serbs who shelled Zagreb.
Prosecutors want to send him to prison for life. Perisic has pleaded not guilty.
