Former Soviet State Celebrates 16th Constitution Day

Kazakhstan celebrates its 16th Constitution Day Tuesday. In the capital city, Astana, festivities include a military parade, concerts and festivals.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev will host the the Astana events. The military parade features more than 250 weapons and military equipment including missiles, tanks and artillery. More than 2,500 military personnel are scheduled to march in the celebration

Festivities are taking place nationwide as a part of the Constitution Day celebration.

Kazakhstan declared its independence from the former Soviet Union on December 16, 1991. The constitution was adopted five years later.
