Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was in Poland Tuesday to talk about closer ties to Europe.
Mr. Yanukovych met with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski in Gdansk, where they discussed plans for greater cooperation and a free trade agreement with the European Union.
Poland currently holds the rotating EU presidency.
Mr. Yanukovych wrote in The Wall Street Journal last week that while Ukraine's historical connection with Russia is important, its future depends on closer ties with the EU. He wrote that he intends to make Ukraine an EU member.
While in Poland, Mr. Yanukovych laid flowers at a memorial to those killed in World War II.
