Guinea-Bissau's president has been taken to Senegal for medical care, the latest in a series of foreign trips that have raised questions about his health.

Guinea-Bissau officials say President Malam Bacai Sanha was “evacuated” to the Senegalese capital, Dakar. There are conflicting reports on whether he was taken there Tuesday or Wednesday.

Officials did not give details on the president's condition.

The 64-year-old Sanha is known to have diabetes, as well as trouble with hemoglobin levels in his blood. He has made several trips to Dakar or France for medical treatment since taking office in September 2009.

Mr. Sanha was elected in July of that year to replace President Joao Bernardo Vieira, who was assassinated four months earlier.
